West Cape May — The Inland Twin of Cape May

West Cape May sits just inland from Cape May City, a small borough of farms, orchards, and residential streets that served as the agricultural backbone for the famous resort next door. Unlike Cape May's oceanfront grandeur, West Cape May has always been a quiet agricultural community — its strawberry farms were famous throughout South Jersey. Aerial prints of this community are not currently in our collection, but West Cape May's setting — at the base of the cape between the resort strip and the Delaware Bay shore — makes it a fascinating study in the contrast between resort and rural New Jersey.
