Ventnor — Atlantic City's Quiet Neighbor
Ventnor City sits immediately south of Atlantic City on Absecon Island, sharing the same barrier but with a very different character — quieter, more residential, and without the casino piers and honky-tonk of its famous neighbor. The 1920 aerial shows Ventnor's orderly grid of year-round and summer homes, with the wide beach and a modest boardwalk along the oceanfront. The transition from Atlantic City to Ventnor is visible in the aerial — the density drops noticeably at the city line. By 1933, the Chesapeake-Potomac Hurricane had eroded the beach face noticeably. These two aerials bracket a brief era when Ventnor was at the height of its modest resort identity.
