Sea Girt — The National Guard's Shore Post

Sea Girt is home to the New Jersey National Guard's training camp, and in the 1920 aerial the parade grounds and military structures are clearly visible alongside the small residential community. The old Sea Girt Lighthouse, built in 1896, stands near the beachfront. The beach in 1920 is broad and backed by natural dunes — a very different picture than later decades. The 1933 view shows the impact of the summer hurricane on the dune face, and the National Guard camp appears active. By 1962, the Ash Wednesday Storm caused major erosion along the Sea Girt oceanfront, dramatically narrowing the beach visible in the earlier aerials.
