Peahala Park — Growing Up Between Beach Haven and Brant Beach
Peahala Park fills a section of southern LBI between Brant Beach and Beach Haven, and its four aerials show the classic LBI development arc: nearly empty lots in 1920, growing community by 1933, storm damage in 1944, and full development by 1962. The 1920 view shows natural dunes and a wide oceanfront beach with minimal construction. By 1933, cottages had multiplied. The 1944 hurricane tore through the dune line. By 1962, Peahala Park was completely built out — but the Ash Wednesday Storm treated the island as a single hydraulic unit, and the 1962 aerial shows the overwash and beach narrowing that marked every LBI community that year.
