Manasquan — The Inlet Town at the County Line
Manasquan Inlet separates Monmouth and Ocean counties, and the 1920 aerial makes its navigation clear — the training jetties extend into the ocean, funneling the Manasquan River between them. The 1920 view shows the inlet jetties when they were still relatively new, having been constructed in the early 1900s. By 1933, the inlet had shifted slightly under hurricane pressure, and the beach on the Manasquan side shows erosion from the storm. The 1962 aerial captures Manasquan after the Ash Wednesday Storm, which caused some of the worst damage the inlet area had seen — waves overtopped the jetties and flooding reached several blocks inland.
