Haven Beach — Southern LBI Through Four Historic Years
Haven Beach is one of the smaller named communities on southern LBI — a residential section without the commercial energy of Beach Haven. The 1920 aerial shows natural conditions: wide beach, intact dunes, and sparse early development. By 1933, the community had grown and the hurricane had eroded the oceanfront. The 1944 aerial captures the aftermath of the Great Atlantic Hurricane, which struck in September during the busy season and caused significant damage. By 1962, Haven Beach was a developed summer community — and the Ash Wednesday Storm left its mark on every property on the island, surge flooding from both ocean and bay simultaneously.
