Beach Haven Park — Four Decades of Shore Living
Beach Haven Park sits in the southern portion of LBI between the resort hub of Beach Haven and the residential streets to the north. The 1920 aerial shows a modest community taking shape on what was still largely a natural barrier. Development accelerated through the 1930s — visible in the 1933 aerial — despite the economic pressures of the Depression. The 1944 Great Atlantic Hurricane struck southern LBI with force, and the dune damage in the 1944 aerial is striking compared to the natural beach of 1920. By 1962, Beach Haven Park was a dense summer neighborhood, and the Ash Wednesday Storm overwashed it repeatedly over three days.
